I'd been meaning to get to it for a while, but I'd been sucked into so many other, more recent, books. Was the movie close to the book or did Hollywood push the story over a barrel like they like to do so often? Speaking of books have you or anyone else read metro 2033?

Anyone can try the game for free here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/world/ thats the base game then you can buy extra aircraft if you want. I just hope you have a joystick.

Oh ya I agree 100% with what your saying...but it does make the said things eraser. For example when ninja ratting I often had to carry enough ammo with me to support me for the duration of my "incursion". Which left room for only the very best loot/salvage.
Now how ever now with the Mobile Depot I can just bring that with me anchor it and use it as a mobile base of operations. ie some place to store my ammo and salvage/loot so my "incursions" can be longer in duration and more profitable.
If that makes any scene. |

Oh indeed it does. There's no arguing with any of that. What bothers me is that they seem to accumulate about 5 of these in different mechanical areas of the game, throw in a new ship or 2 (if), and call it an Expansion. Every other game I've played always had radical stuff to add when calling it an expansion. Even Civ 5. It's first expansion introduced 2 now amazingly important things; the Religion and Espionage mechanics. And the 2nd expansion just added International Trade Routes, another aspect that like the other 2 are vital and integral to even winning the game. None of this "Ok, here's a new but faster and more expensive way to do something you've always done." but then, maybe it's just me...............
Your right in what your saing...and it's the same in SWTOR (Starwars The Old Republic) when they only introduce new "minor" (like weapons, gear and such) things its just a patch. There fist expansion introduced a whole new planet more mission and a higher lvl cap...amongst other things.
CCP just has a good marketing strategy that is all and there expansions just introduce a few relativity minor things...but I cant help this time tho shaking the feeling that Rubicon is leading up to something big. |

Despite Randoms lackadaisical (big word for the day) attempt at sarcasm I am truly a bitter vet...let me explain why
I usted to like PVP before it turned into a blob fest I was a skirmish pvp guy I liked the small to medium sized fleets of 10-50 but it seems like more and more specially with the rise of the collations in nul sec the ways of the small fleets are going the way of the dinosaurs in favor of 1000+ man blobs, which just becomes to over whelming and boring.
And of couse that begs the question of what one can do the rest of the time one is waiting for the once in a blue moon mega blob fleets to happen. It leaves one with few options, Mine, rat (or some other obligatory form of pve) which by the way has not changed all that much. Or the other option one is left with is to out on a roam and hope that in the 2-3hrs spent (wasted) jumping about you get an encounter.
And right now missions and anoms have just become to easy and boring for me they basicaly are the same thing over and over, just warp hear kill this/loot that rince and repeat.
Sorry for the longer then normal LAGL post but I put it in the shortest format possible |

I'm curious as to how long it will take to get even one of those sites done at all. Much less other minor things. Does CCP really, I mean really understand how their playerbase operates ?? I'm not so sure. I also do not recall there being a big call for this warp change anyway, but whatever. They may have ran out of ideas for new content. So I guess they have to start messing with core content/mechanics
That could be true but I am expecting to see a ceptor nerf in the near future after the new "expansion" goes live on TQ...I dont think CCP really thought this through (but when do they ever) |

Really the Cyno Jamer is pretty unremarkable and it wont effect much of anything, all it means is that carriers/dreads and such will have to drop 100k of the main fleet...which dont really matter to them much anyway. But then you have the 2 minute activation time to deal with so its not really going to stop hot-drops because you basically have to set them up ahead of time... so its kind of a pointless deplorable unless used en-mass.

I'm still rocking an old AMD 1090T six core CPU with 16gb of memory. Although I am getting sick of the crazy ammount of heat it pumps out. It's core and overall temp sensors also don't work anymore. Atleast I'm still rather happy with its performance.
I need to work on mine as well, I have a FX-8350 w/ 8G of ram and an XFX 7950 but I plan on upgrading all but the cpu and mother board in the near future..which reminds me I have to get going here work in the am. Yes we do actually
The message means, when deciphered: "The Institute is sealed. They won't help us; I'm heading to Black Row -TBNLS 5120-"
The new morse code is: Calling all stations, this is overseer 119 emergency enemy unknown, SOS. Vault 119 Quabbin 7667, repeat, SOS, Vault 119 Quabbin 7667 enemy unknown
Source
Here is something else pretty cool I just ran a revers IP check and the sight is hosted on a server in the Baltimore - Maryland which is near the area that fallout 4 is supposed to focus on and Quabbin mentions in the message could be a reference to a reservoir (or the sounding region) in Massachusetts
Oh and 7667 if one takes that and does a Latitude and Longitude look up it points to Novaya Zemlya which was one of the former Soviet Unions nuclear testing grounds
So given all this its all starting to add up in my mind imho. So to me it seems that vault 119 located in the Quabbin valley was either directly or indirectly effected by a nuclear bomb/blast. |

Wonder whose behind this one. Bethesda or Obsidian. I was wondering the same thing earlier. I hope its Obsidian. Tbh i hope its bethesda. I enjoyed fallout 3 more than new vegas. I know obsidian are the remnants of the team who made fallout, but new vegas to me in terms of story was so awfully flat. The RPG elements were better though. World for world wise, bethesda made a better world for fallout if you ask me. New Vegas just felt too spread out and too dull and lifeless. Fallout 3 had a way better map but I liked the story and RPG elements of New Vegas more than Fallout 3's. And I guess thats the problem with the desert for RPG games, they are dull and lifeless
I as well liked Fallout 3 over New Vegas...to me New Vegas was to "optimistic" . I liked the darkness of the over all atmosphere in fa3 where humanity was basically on the fringes of survival. Where as New Vegas everything felt allot more "established" |

Sorry for my horrible writing skills in advance I had to go to town to go do something and decided to leave my computer on because I was downloading some large games and wanted them to be finished when I came back home. When I got back I went to go back on the computer but realized it was not on which was strange. I knew I was downloading some stuff and knew the computer should not have shut down except for a power outage. I was pretty nervous at the point. Pressed the power button, the computer turned on normally. About 10-15 seconds later the computer powered off and I thought to myself WTF.... Pressed the power button again same thing happened, I was starting get very worried at this point. Pressed the button for a third time and the computer stayed on for about 2 seconds and then shut off. By this point I knew something was drastically wrong. I frantically checked all cables and fittings on the outside of the computer. All was fine, I knew that was not the problem. Then I opened the case up to see if anything was wrong inside the computer. I unscrewed the screws for the door and put them aside and lifted the door off the case and sat it aside as well. My jaw dropped by what I saw inside. The CPU heat sink had fallen off and was on the bottom of the case with a shattered fan blade bits all over the place. The CPU was halfway dislodged from its socket with thermal grease spread all over the place. I figured out the CPU heatsink retention clip had broke and the heatsink then fell off the socket causing the CPU to overheat and shutdown to save itself. After I saw what had a happend I was slightly relieved, I was pretty sure there was no damage to computer apart from heatsink. I cleaned the case up and checked for bent CPU pins (thank god there was none). I ordered up a heatsink that I could bolt down instead of the AMDs clip style which broke. Two days later I bolted the new heatsink on. I powered the computer up and to my relief it booted and loaded windows just fine. The computer still runs fine to this day and now I only use bolt on heatsink retention devices.
Most new higher end heat sinks use bolt on kits now anyway Noctua makes some of the best imho. |

Huh...never knew such a jet existed, but I should have known most Russian airliners are copys of "western" ones. Just like the Tupolev Tu-154 is a copy of the Boeing-727. All tho I do think the Tu-154 looks cooler due in part to the large "spike" on the top of its vertical stabilizer. |

Actually, that should be better read as "I spend what little time I can devote to playing by jumping through what seems and endless amount of stargates". If I wanted to jump through hoops for hours, I'd just go to work.. It just doesn't seem much fun anymore.
Sadly this is becoming more and more common place as eve is falling victim to its own play style...and that is that its primarily a PVP based mmo, the pve aspects are rather dull and repetitive.
I am not long back my self from an extended break for much the same reason(s) the game had become more of an "ordeal" then a fun past time. |

And sadly this is one of the biggest misconceptions about eve and personally I think why more people dont play it. I can rember when I was playing STWOR while taking a break from eve and I showed them this article (at-least I think it was this one) I had a heck of a time getting them to believe that they guy never actually loose 9k in RL money.

on second thought, nid and phoenix may have been picked for their rectangular profile

With all the commercialization around this time of year and having limited financial resources...which is compounded by the fact I am not getting anywhere close to the amount of hours compared to other years. I dont see any foreseeable way that I can come up with the $40 USD for my 3 month sub which is due up in 7 days
Now just to be clear I am not looking for handouts or to take advantage of anyone's generosity because I know a few of you are probity thinking that is why I am telling you.

Would it not just be better to let private companies take care of human spaceflight at least?
NASA seems to have its head up its ass for human space flight, Russia has a good, reliable and relatively cheap system with Soyuz. and of course SpaceX (a private space company) is well on its way to be able to launch people into LEO.
I believe NASA is rarin' to go. They have just been de-funded over the years to the point of irrelevancy, thanks to a Congress that rapidly does not believe in education or science at all. After all "there ain't no room in Congress for intellectuals" -- US Senator Ted Cruz. Yeah thats true, I forget about their shoestring budget. I'd love to see what NASA could do with even a fraction of the Defense budget. Hell I bet they could come up with a spaceplane in the next 20 years. The Air Force currently has a small reusable shuttle like craft that no one really knows much about. I guess thats where some of the talent and money went.
Allot of people (Buzz Aldrin) for the privatization of the space program, Just look at this quote from him.
"I believe that space travel will one day become as common as airline travel is today. I'm convinced, however, that the true future of space travel does not lie with government agencies -- NASA is still obsessed with the idea that the primary purpose of the space program is science -- but real progress will come from private companies competing to provide the ultimate adventure ride, and NASA will receive the trickle-down benefits." BUZZ ALDRIN, Magnificent Desolation
He is over all pretty critical of the whole NASA space program that quote is just one of many. But I think until the tech becomes more main stream NASA and other government agencies are the way to go. I have found this Petition sight with the goal of having the US Government raise NASA's budjet to one penny for every tax dollar (hence the name) http://www.penny4nasa.org |

In the past I've been forced into not having access to this game as well. However, it wasn't due to not being able to pay for the sub, it was due to not being able to pay the ISP. Out of my +5 years in this game, I've got about 9 months total of being off line with 4 months being the longest period of time. Talk about going through withdrawals. I got the 1xSmall Tractor Beam I as well
If you look at the description of each Yule Lad the gift given by him relates directly to there description.
Take the one for today for ex. "Eat-Hook makes sure he arrives on December 23, just in time for the preparation of the Christmas food for the next day. Using a hooked stick or a line and hook, he snags the best legs of lamb and pulls them up the chimney." and we get a tractor beam. |

It was all considered trash and worthless. Why so closed minded ? That's one of the huge problems in the world atm. Sorry I posted it. Art is extremely vast area, almost everything could be said that it is an art of some form. But as an "art" art i see your stereotypical painting of a scenery, structure or a person. Also never apologize for posting something, the freedom of posting applies here Yup. Pulling out "I don't like it so it's not art", or "it's ugly so it's not art" is such an antiquated idea, it's astonishing it's still lurking around. The Medici's, and other dictatorial private entities, did a rather excellent job of brainwashing European culture into thinking about art their way, and their way only. All those "beautiful images" did nothing but support the idea of the greatness of the Medici family and their values. All that gold and formal settings and landscapes........ ......that are depictions of the "perfect world" they were striving for. Nothing outside of their "rules" of what to paint and how to paint it was allowed. Folks like Michelangelo and Titian were straight-jacketed into maintaining this status quo towards the aggrandizement of these patron families. In other words, all those lovely canvases from 1500 - 1850's are extremely repressive, finely controlled images, ultimately no different in idea from what Mr H. was determining as "proper art" during his little tenure that were made only to support the furtherance of the ideals of the folks actually paying for the art. At least now artists have freedom to be artists. So, ironically what we call "good old traditional art" is born of a fascistic mindset that managed to hold it's power until the Impressionists said "screw this crap".
EDIT: I hope your not referring to me in this post . But anyway I understanding what your saying, and I really dont understand the art world that much when it comes to commercial vs non commercial art and things like that. |

Yes, that's a very nice, quality picture done by someone with more talent than I have. And it is art. But it's also considered commercial art. It's just an image that doesn't say or reveal anything about human nature or anything. It just is. This really isn't any different than saying something is or is not art. Just because the picture doesn't speak to you, or evoke an emotion, does not mean it doesn't for someone else. A sci-fi piece like that is more likely to get me thinking about human nature than 95% of the works I ever saw in the museums in Chicago.
True but art is all about ones personal taste...I dont like impressionistic art where someone else may.
The only thing I sometimes wonder over is Who decides if I piece of art is museum quality. Specially the really expensive pieces in the MET and Louvre and other famous art museums. Its like you said some of the stuff in there is ugly (in my opinion) but who says that itGÇÖs a master piece that should sell for millions where as the piece I showed would be lucky to sell for hundreds if it was a one of a kind piece.
In simple words who gets the say in if a piece is worth a million bucks or a hundred, and what makes said pieces so expensive. |

Oh boy. That's an fascinating and unbelievably complex question. Always. Geez...put me through the wringer next time ! Historically, politics have occasionally played a part. Witness Mr. H's gathering up of all 'contemporary' art from the impressionists onward and labeling it Degenerate art....complete with traveling exhibition of that same title. A lot depends on the reputation of the artist. Sometimes an astonishing oveur is revealed only by accident, like the "Helga" paintings of Andrew Wyeth. Nobody had heard of him, and then suddenly 60 years worth of amazing work is discovered., driving the price from nothing to valuable. Sometimes it depends on how prolific an artist is, or how prolific he is in one area. For Picasso, small outfits were hired to make official copies of clay vases that are technically Picassos, but there are just so many of them. Some can still be found for only $500. Same case with Marc Chagall. His oils are certainly going to cost millions, but the lithograph prints....gosh, he did so many, and usually in series of over 500 and such. Those do not cost very much in galleries at all. Most artists choose early on whether they are going to be a serious gallery artist or a serious commercial artist. And it's always more probable that they choose commercial art, as most are technically proficient at what they do, they don't have that "spark" that brings a work and ideas to life. This is similar to the difference in quality literature, in comparing say Ernest Hemingway with Danielle Steele. They can both churn out books, and they both write, but there is a universe of difference between them. The fine art world is no different on that point. Same thing in comparing a Dodge Colt with a hand-tooled Rolls Royce. I don't believe you'd have any problem choosing which one of those is obviously more valuable. Finally, this subject is addressed in detail in a wonderful documentary film "Who the F*** is Jackson Pollock ?" It's about a woman who found a rolled up large canvas in her old garage, and years later it was indeed authenticated as a previously unknown Jackson Pollock work. However, no auction house will allow the work to be priced anywhere near the range of other Pollocks. The reasons behind that are way too complex to go into here, but it does outline excellently the issue which you bring up. Honestly, this is only about half of an explanation.
Likes handed out....
I understand that but what makes "fine art" vs "commercial art"...like what is the difference between them and how does one tell them apart?
To me all art looks the same....its a picture someone drew/painted. |

Anyway, Commercial Art is a creative service, basically it's art created for commercial purposes used for advertising. The term 'Commercial Art' is more or less viewed as old fashioned now and has been replaced with more contemporary terms such as 'Graphic Design' or 'Advertising Art', etc.
Commercial Art traditionally includes designing Book Covers, Signs, Posters, Brochures, Flyers, Business Cards, Letterheads, Logo's, etc, as well as usage in Magazines and high tech media such as TV / Cable / Internet Commercials. All the various art mediums are used in the field of Commercial Art. Everything from water colors, pastels, ink, paint, sculpting, etc, up to and including photography and video. Even various construction materials such as paper, wood, plastic, metal, ceramics, etc, are used in Commercial Art.
Whether Commercial Art is done via modern, contemporary, classic or even with cartoon media, it's still Commercial Art due to being used in advertisements that promote the sale or acceptance of products, services and or new ideas that's directed to a large portion of the general population, from the average household family to corporate business on up to and including politics.

Yes but some of the stuff on devantartt are one off pictures and are nor for "commercial purposes used for advertising" they are simply paintings or pictures that people drew. Like this one of oil painting for example.

He tries to evoke simply a pure experience of color (and death.... but that's later in the career).

Oh, absolutely not. But until we manage to break the lightspeed barrier for vehicles and/or communication techniques, we will absolutely never be actually aware of each other. Ever. ed: And what makes you believe that not all are experimental aircraft ? Just saying "some possibly" is just a statement meaning nothing. "Aliens" cannot violate physical laws to get to Earth any more than we can get to them, and probably never will.

The forum discussion on the article is pretty much about this egregious error (and the death of true journalism anymore), an error it turns out that was made on another site entirely (probably deliberately) and just cut and pasted at TV Guide.
They should be hearing from a lawyer tomorrow morning I would imagine.
I was reading this article about Episode VII detailing major story & character changes
Some people my hate me for this but I have a lot of faith in J.J Abrams, he did an amazing job with Star Trek in my opinion, however that was considered a reboot where plot changes were accepted, the series needed a face lift. This (Star Wars) however is a completely different story, episode seven will be a continuation and he CAN NOT be throwing in plot twists left and right. Especially with all the written lore and Cannon Law. Unless he is planning to reboot the whole series this is unacceptable and I feel like it will have Star Wars fans (like my self) up in arms. Which is why I am hoping this article is merely a rumour.

I'm always after lower heat and power consumption and unfortunately nvidia has the ball for this.
Oh I agree with your statement on that however the DirectCU II cooler/cooling helps quite a bit with the heat aspect, but hay it was a high performance video card for under $200 the closest nvidia equivalent is around the $400 mark. Got to go with bang for the buck

Kryptik Kai wrote:Commissar Kate wrote:I was looking up newer CPUs and came across this disappointing news.
It looks like AMD is stepping out of the high end CPU game and are more then likely to stop developing the FX series desktop CPUs and instead focus on their APUs and multicore server chips.
I do have to say their APUs are quite impressive but they still lack raw CPU power. Their graphics chip is rather good though, better then Intels IGP.
I'm still running on an old AMD 1090T six core, it still works quite well for what I need it to do. Maybe if the AMD FX-8350 drops to low price or there is a fire sale on one I might pick it up and plop it in.
I just fear the difficulty of cooling it with the low speed fans I like to use. ~1000 RPM is what I tolerate. Intel and Nvidia based systems are trivial to cool as long as they run on stock speeds. Its not really that surprising. They have always struggled to compete in the high end CPU market, but their APUs are what is making them the money right now (as AMD APUs are the chip driving both the Xboner and the PS4). Even though I have always preferred my Intel CPU/Nvidia GPU setup, I always liked AMD/ATI being around because competition is good for growth.
Allot of intel's dominance is because with the majority of computer "enthusiasts" its all about who has the fasts, bests PC and dont mind plopping 400-500 bucks on a new board and CPU every year or so just to say "on top" and with AMD vs Intel chips there is not that much of real life difference between them, most benchmarks are synthetic or the intel chip "beets" the AMD by a few seconds which your average person wouldn't even notice.
For me its always been about "bang" for the buck when buying computer parts and right now that is the FX series. |

Anyway G'night all heading to bed now Apparently the G400s is the same shape as the old G5 and lacks the coil whine. The Steelseries seems to have a similar shape to the old Microsoft Intelimouse which was great. Both have optical sensors which I feel is better. Who needs the 9000DPI you get with laser anyway?
Corsair has a good gaming mouse line up...tho I have no personal experience with them. I have read some solid reviews on a number of them the main complaint being the lack of resolution but that dont seem to be a problem in your specific case.
You know I found that with mice its kind-of a trial and error type issue, one almost has to get the hands on feel of the moue to know if your going to like it or not. However I have found Youtube reviews helpful in this why tho, which is what I would recommend you do before you settle on one particular model. |

I figured... hey, its a single player game! Don't need the internet! Launch it and boom, Installing DirectX... (this sits there for EVER just circle spinning). Apparently Steam needs to be connected to install DirectX? So I closed it and figured hey, I'll play later. But, what is this? The game launches?
Woo!
So, there I am happily playing away in Skyrim when all of the sudden the game crashes and I get a message that my graphics driver has crashed. Okay, thats odd. Load it up again, crash. Load, crash, load, crash, etc...
Oh noes...
Clean the drivers off and reinstall. Load, crash.
Start crashing while using Firefox! GAHHH!!! At this point my system starts becoming incredibly unstable. I am figuring that either my card fried while playing Skyrim, or somehow the botched DirectX installation somehow corrupted something very very important. So after messing around for a few hours cleaning things off and reinstalling, and failing horribly... I made the decision to nuke my computer (factory image reinstall)(cheaper than the other solution of buying new GPU).
So far my computer seems stable but I haven't gotten any games installed yet (though, its not crashing with browser usage, so improvement).
Damn you Skyrim!

As a last ditch attempt you could try reflashing the BIOS on the card, if I knew which card I could link you to the BIOS for it.

OK first of some business to take care of in that I am just putting you all on advanced notice that my sub is due on the 20th of February (that is 12 days) and right now I donGÇÖt have anywhere near enough of the isk required for another plex.
I have been busy in RL and have not been in game much to do the necessary isk grinding. So if that situation does not change/improve then I will have to let my sub expire (for the first time) until I can get some extra cash together to reactivate/sub it again.
I just wanted everyone to know that it is a real possibility and let you all know well enough in advance, I will know 100% sure as the date closes closer.

Well, it's definitely sad to hear about someone leaving Eve. Even more so when it's beyond their control. Anyway, this is something you knew about way in advance and you mention it now with less than 2 weeks left? I'd feel for you but I just can't reach you. It's complicated, did I know it was coming up yes. However I thought I would have enough RL money to cover the sub, but repairs to my car and computer basically tanked my savings and both went on the fritz the same time
As a result I wont have the RL cash to cover the sub till the end of the month.

Don't think I am going to loose it at all now....a close friend in my mains corp bailed me out as long as I pay him/her (for disclaimer purposes) back a plex at the end of the month when I get my finances back in order.

Myself, I've been busy getting caught up on stuff from my Hospital stay. My feet are healing - slowly but surely. They're still tender, and I may have overdone it a little these last few days as they're aching a little worse today than they were earlier in the week. Still, it's a huge improvement over a month ago.
I haven't had much ambition to play EVE since getting home though. My one friend recently let her account lapse for a while, and that's really put a damper on my own ambition to play. I've been playing a little bit of Secret World for a change of pace, but I'm not sure how long that'll hold my attention as I have no friends in that game either currently. Welcome back, hope your recovery proceeds swiftly.
I second this notion Hope all goes well with your recovery

Yeah, all the voltages look fine (I'd certainly hope so with a 1200watt PSU)
Just because you have a heavy power supply dont mean all your voltages are necessarily "stable" to be sure you would need to get a PSU tester or something like AIDA64 that will monitor your voltages.
And here is the GPU memory tester you are/were looking for MemtestCL GÇö a GPU memory tester
Hope this helps

Ya and there is your problem ...
Alienware is just over priced crap imo, I am willing to bet for the price you paid for that you could have had a custom build a lot better.
I am a strong believer in building ones own rigg is way better (and cheaper) then most of the prefab PC's on the market. I have been building my own rigs for roughly 15 years. |

Well this is going to be my last post on/in LAGL it's just becoming a hassle to post and distribute likes every day. And not to offend anyone but I have better things to do with my time.
Don't get me wrong it has been fun but like I said it is just becoming a hassle now not like it was when I first started posting here. I may be back from time to time but not on a regular basis like I have been.
Take it easy all. |
